Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala University Hospital, is Sweden's oldest university hospital. The first department was established as early as 1708. We make the best use of new technology, new scientific findings and new ways of working in order to solve medical problems and to continuously improve the way we take care of our patients. Uppsala University Hospital is one of Sweden's biggest and a full-scale university hospital with 8,000 employees and 1,100 beds. The University Hospital has several different roles – county hospital, specialist hospital, training hospital and research hospital. The Department of Spinal Cord Injuries performs multidisciplinary treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord lesions. Our aim is to treat and rehabilitate patients with spinal cord lesions to enable these patients to become as independent as possible. Patients with spinal cord injuries are followed throughout life via outpatient or inpatient check-ups.
