Billy suffered a spinal cord injury while serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1975, but was able to continue walking with crutches and braces for 40 years. Then surgery in 2012 left him in a wheelchair for life. While in therapy at Gaylord Hospital, he was introduced to EKSO. Because of his success with EKSO, he was invited by the VA to demonstrate the device to then newly-appointed Secretary of Veterans’ Affairs, Robert MacDonald, and appeared with him on 60 Minutes with Scott Pelley. He currently has over 75,000 steps in EKSO and still counting. As a former congressional aide to U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman, Billy was able to advocate for veterans in Connecticut. He eagerly embraces every opportunity to help other veterans experience the same benefits that he has had. When he is not traveling, his family enjoys his passion for cooking.
