Dan was injured by an IED while serving in the US Army in Afghanistan in April of 2011 leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. Since his injury, Dan has kept himself busy tutoring at local elementary schools, downhill skiing, and playing wheelchair lacrosse. Dan was first introduced to the Ekso at the Milwaukee VA SCID Center. It was an amazing experience for him to be able to walk again with the use of technology after being told he would never walk again after his injury. The device has improved his life by increasing his range of motion in his lower extremities as well as his emotional well being. Dan describes the feeling of standing in the device to standing on a mountain, “I never considered myself a tall person, but to be able to stand in the Ekso makes me feel like I’m the tallest man in the world.
