RKU – The Ulm University and Rehabilitation Clinics are hospitals of maximum care with focus on orthopedics and neurology. They combine acute care with subsequent medical and vocational rehabilitation of patients. The university hospital consists of the department of orthopedics with paraplegic center, the department of neurology with stroke unit, and the department of anesthesiology and intensive care. Nearby, there is a day clinic for patients with specific orthopedic pain. For the University of Ulm, the orthopedic and neurological clinics account for teaching and research. Beside the acute area, there is a Centre for Integrated Rehabilitation. Thus, the RKU combines clinical medicine at the university hospital of Ulm with rehabilitation and vocational training.
