EksoNR is the most advanced neuro-rehabilitative exoskeleton available and provides benefits to the largest number of patients recovering from a stroke, spinal cord injury, or acquired brain injury. At Shirley Ryan, we have studied Ekso since the inception and now also use it clinically in our inpatient and outpatient programs.

Walking with the EksoNR has truly changed my life. And I’m not just talking about the physical benefits—improved bone density, better breathing, and healthier digestion. Those are real and important. But what matters most is something deeper: rediscovering the joy of life. Feeling tall again. Standing upright and looking my husband in the eyes. Moving my body with intention and, simply, walking again. These moments restore a sense of independence, dignity, and hope that once felt out of reach.

GaitCoach is very intuitive. It allows for the PT to be more confident sooner with programming and then the focus is on handling and patients can engage more quickly. GaitCoach provides the right amount of feedback to the PT, at the right intervals to cue their patients in taking more steps with improved gait mechanics.

I am excited about this upgrade and the impact it will have on training new clinicians. GaitCoach will help make the Ekso training more intuitive and will aide in training more therapists to use the technology, which will ultimately help serve more patients. I am looking forward to using it in my facility.

With EksoNR, we provide our patients access to a modern, robot-assisted, and highly effective therapy approach. GaitCoach software is very intuitive. GaitCoach would be super useful for cognitively impaired patients - easier to explain if they could see it on screen

Ekso enhances mobility, strength, and endurance—among other key abilities. Patients often notice improvements even after just a few sessions. This consistent progress boosts their motivation and helps reduce the fear of walking independently.

We have the opportunity to have under control the fine-tuning of the Ekso system and the body of the patient at the same time because we are able to change the power that you are using, to change the velocity that you would like to use, the step length. We like that we have a lot of improvements using Ekso to perform gait training.

You can change the parameters within Ekso allowing for more, less, or no resistance… it is revolutionary.

This equipment enables me and the therapy team to give patients more of a chance to live a better quality of life and reduce their long term disability.

The decision for the Ekso was not difficult for me due to the clinical evidence. We already had the first AHA effects during the introduction of the device. Patients showed significant progress and mobilization within a short period of time and this was a decisive experience for me which has contributed immensely to the decision for the Ekso.

Ekso, if qualified, is a more efficient intervention than the body-weight supported treadmill that we do for ABI patients. In terms of logistical manpower, the control of the quality of the gait pattern and repetition for motor relearning. I do think that Ekso is a good intervention for early mobilization, tapping into neuroplasticity expediently and more successfully.

Ekso helps us get patients up, out of bed, and ambulatory as soon as possible.

We were able to see immediate impact on the patient’s ability to perform bed mobility, transfers, and independence with all functional activities after one session with the device. This device has greatly improved our patient’s outcomes while decreasing physical assistance required by staff members.

We went from taking 20 steps with three physical therapists to taking hundreds of steps in a session with one.

From my own experience, either therapists are physically carrying these patients across the gym at great expense to their own bodies or they’re just not able to mobilize these patients; so many of our patients are very weak and the therapists absorb much because of the burden. The therapists I work with are now able to do so much more using Ekso.
